Advancing the Art of Shaping

In its work with renowned shapers, we noticed an alarming trend: like so many of the best things, surfboard hand shapers were on their way out. While many wave fanatics would like to follow in their footsteps, they were often discouraged by the cost of entry. Practice blanks were not cheap, so that many shape masters and their apprentices were priced out of the scene.

Ice-Nine believes in the next generation of shapers and that's why we created the ICE-NINE APPRENTICE PROGRAM where we promise to donate all rejected and experimental blanks to easily qualified master-apprentice teams. We would like only a signature board for our archives in return, and maybe a plate lunch some day in Haleiwa.

YOUR APPRENTICE BLANK PROGRAM HAS BEEN VERY MUCH APPRECIATED HERE AT INFINITY. IT HAS ALLOWED MY NEW SHAPERS TO REALLY CHARGE INTO A BLANK WITH THE PLANER WITH OUT THE FEAR OF WASTING A FIRST QUALITY BLANK. NO ONE CAN USE A PLANER VERY WELL AT FIRST. YOU BASICLY HAVE TO RUIN A FEW BLANKS BEFORE YOU START EVEN DOING PASSABLE WORK. THAT PRESSURE IS VERY INTIMIDATING TO A NEW SHAPER AND YOUR DONATED BLANKS HAVE REALLY TAKEN THE PRESSURE OFF.
